Thinking about learning

Education perfect is online learning at it best.It is competitive between students in a class,  between classes in a school, between schools in a country and between countries as well. Competitiveness is not its main feature. The real time feedback and  monitoring is excellent. As soon as a student is log in, it tracks them and report back. An individual and class report is available. It shows the student where the gaps are in their learning. The activities  is progressive and lessons are provided. Answers are mark immediately and when an answer is wrong, it shows the correct working out and answers. This is available learning tool. Videos is missing unfortunately, but I have build ups a video library to compensate for the visual learners and poor listeners. When students were given a choice to do MyiMaths or Education Perfect,  most students choose education perfect. When I first saw the movie Hidden Figures   I know that the whole school have to see this . From a motivational perspective, it is one of the best best movies of the year and deserved every Oscar it got.WE did second best--show it during Maths in the class. Lessons learned from the movie is numerous and there are many levels and layers in the movie. There are main four themes, Cold War. ,Space race, racism and Mathematics are woven together to form a spell binding journey in telling the story of three ladies role in helping humankind achieve their biggest achievement yet----land a man on the moon This was not without any problems. Actually,t he whole movie was about real life problems and solutions. Mathex is an excellent way to make Maths fun. There is a lot of running around,discussions in groups and glances at the score board. The competition was held in three phases.First there was class competition where everyone took part. The two pop team went to the school completion in the Auditorium.The top teams weres elected and went to  Selwyn College in a inter school competition. Every participant got a rise card. The two top teams from the year group got Rise vouchers and went through to the Selwyn competition The Mathex competition is group work deluxe. It is time constrain and very competitive.Quick thinking and problem solving is the two main attributes too win this type of competition. Teamwork is essential. The running scoreboard was really good. One of the students,Alex,was in his element. He will not play Rugby or Basketball because he is small, but in Mathex the size of your brain matters more than physical size

                                                                Race track We broke from the normal routine of online learning and did a hand on activity. The idea is to introduced algebra substitution in a fun way, The lesson went well. At the beginning  we did  a few calculations as a class together before the Board game were introduced. The  first round they have to work out the calculations. The second round the calculations were  much easier and by the third round it nearly became automatic.  There were lots of positive noise and laughter in the class. Most groups were engaged, however ,in every class  a group played the game without doing the calculations.
